Nodes that are not part of a cluster must be assigned a cluster element ID.
All elements on a cluster must be programmed with the same
Dialing plan
Feature access codes.

NOTE: Hot Desking is NOT supported on ACD sets, attendant consoles, Symbol wireless sets, ONS sets, single line IP sets (such as 5001 and 5201), 5700, Mitel Dual Mode (SIP and MiNET) phones operating in SIP mode, OpenPhones, or CITELlink-supported sets.
Resilient Clustered Hot Desking is not supported for SpectraLink Wireless Phones in 3300 ICP Release 5.1 or earlier.
A hot desk set cannot be programmed as
a Recorded Announcement Device (RAD)
a RAD Hunt Group member.
A hot desk user cannot log in to a hot desk set programmed as
an ACD set
a Record-A-Call Hunt Group member
an Emergency Hunt Group member
a Hotel or Suite extension
Hot desk users must have the following Class of Service Options enabled:
HCI/CTI/TAPI Call Control Allowed
HCI/CTI/TAPI Monitor Allowed
A hot desk user can have a Service Level of Full Service or Multi-Device.
A hot desk user cannot be provisioned with a PKM. If a user logs in to a hot desk set with a PKM, the PKM will be disabled.
A hot desk user CANNOT be programmed as
An ACD set - "ACD Set" set to "Yes" in the Multiline IP Sets form.
A Flexible Answer Point for a non Dial-in trunk
A Trunk Answer Point for a non Dial-in trunk
A Recorded Announcement Device (RAD)
A Hotel or Suite extension
An Emergency Hunt Group member
A RAD Hunt Group member
A Record-a-call Hunt Group member
A tenant member
A hot desk user must have a voice mailbox on the MiCollab Nupoint UM system to use the Hot Desk PIN Security feature.
Set replacement is not allowed while a user is logged in. In the event that a logged in set fails and requires replacement, you must use the BUSY RESET command to log out the logged in user before replacing the set. To log out the user, reset the hot desk user and, if necessary, the hot desk set.
Syntax: BUSY RESET <Extension number>
For example, to log out a user with extension 6209, enter: BUSY RESET 6209. The system responds with: Busy Reset completed.
Alarm thresholds are not affected by out of service hot desk user or phone DNs.
Hot Desk Remote Logout is supported on all devices that allow feature access codes.
Changing a Hot Desk User PIN using Superkey is supported on the following IP devices only:
Hot desking on the 5560 IPT is supported among other 5560 IPT devices ONLY. Due to the master and slave configuration, it is strongly recommended that 5560 IPT hot desk users (HDU) log into 5560 IPT sets ONLY and not into any 53xx series phones, such as 5330. Although the system permits a 5560 IPT HDU to log into a different device type (e.g., a 5330 IP Phone), the device won't behave as expected. If this happens, reboot the device to restore it to normal operation.
An HDU can log in to a 5560 IPT if the DNs for both the HDU and the 5560 IPT are on the same MiVoice Business system. To log in if the 5560 IPT is resilient, the 5560 IPT and the HDU must share the same primary and secondary. To further illustrate these requirements, consider the following configurations and their impact on hot desk log-ins.
Configuration |
HDU Log In Allowed? |
5560 non-resilient on ICP A; HDU non-resilient on ICP A |
Yes |
5560 non-resilient on ICP A; HDU non-resilient on ICP B |
No |
5560 non-resilient on ICP A; HDU resilient on ICP A and B |
Yes |
5560 resilient on ICP A and B; HDU non-resilient ICP B |
No HDUs could log in if the 5560 failed over to ICP B but would be stranded there when the 5560 failed back to ICP A. |
5560 resilient on ICP A and B; HDU resilient on ICP A and B |
Yes |
Hot Desk support on the 5604, 5607, and 5614 Wireless Phones requires MCD 6.0 and hot desk-compatible device and base station firmware.
Provisioning for hot desking is done on the handset and on MiVoice Business: On the handset, the Phone Mode is set to HotDesk via the PDM/Device Manager. (See the Configuration Manual for your handset model on Document Center for more information.) On MiVoice Business, the handset is assigned a Class of Service that allows hot desk users to log in and receive phone service. (Prior to login, the phone is restricted to outgoing calls only via the handset Alarm button.) The SIP Device Capability form is used to select specific device capabilities for the SIP Hot Desk user.
To support set-based features—Hold, Transfer, Conference, and so on—the hot desk user who logs into it requires a Multicall Line Appearance of its own DN on a line accessible from the handset itself.
Hot Desk-enabled SIP devices follow existing SIP resiliency behavior. When provisioning resiliency, you should assign the base station and hot desk user the same primary and secondary MiVoice Business systems. See Program Clustered or Resilient Clustered Hot Desking for more information.
Hot Desk users should NOT change their PIN if hot desking on 612, 622, 632, 650 SIP-Dect handsets. If the PIN is changed while the user is logged in to these devices, the system will force a log out. Subsequent log in attempts will fail because the device base station will NOT have the new PIN.
